We are very grateful to Kath Wilkins, who represented the West (which preceded Somerset) from 1991 – 1999, Somerset (2000 -2003), was Captain for the first season 2000-2001 and gained 3 England Caps for this collection of cricket clothing.

Kath notes that for years the Western Counties did not have a badge or identity. So in the 1990s she wanted to change that, and have a badge like all other counties.
She and a friend came up with the design of a barrel of apples, which seemed the obvious choice both for the County and Region.
A few years passed and then they officially became both Somerset and, with other counties e.g. Devon and Cornwall grew under “The West” banner.
She also noted that in their first year as Somerset, they didn’t have their own kit, mostly relying on the rather larger men’s kit.

Note – At that time they played under the Somerset Cricket Board (SCB) – now the Foundation – and not Somerset County Cricket Club.
