Historical Timeline of Somerset Women’s Cricket.

1953 – The County Ground (now known as The Cooper Associates County Ground) stages its first women’s fixture when South Women take on Women’s Cricket Association.

1956 – Somerset Women play what many believe to be their first recorded match. Surrey Women Second XI are the opposition at Morlands Athletic Ground, Glastonbury.

1963 – The County Ground hosts a fixture between West Women and Australia Women.

1975 – Somerset Women play Dukesmead Women at North Parade, Bath. This will be their last official recorded match for over two decades.

1997 – The County Ground welcomes England Women for the first time when they take on South Africa in a One-Day International. It is a match that sees Charlotte Edwards make her first ODI century.

1999 – A restructuring of the women’s game sees Somerset Women re-formed.

2000 – Somerset Women play in their first One-Day County Championship fixture against East Anglia Women at Churchill College, Cambridge.

2002 – The County Ground hosts its first Women’s Test when England take on India.

2004 – Somerset Women are crowned Division Two County Champions.

2005 – England Women play their first IT20 at the County Ground. In addition to this Somerset Women are crowned Division Two County Champions.

2009 Somerset Women beat Yorkshire in their maiden T20 fixture. In addition to this, The County Ground becomes the ECBs Official Home of Women’s Cricket to coincide with Somerset CCC hosting all 12 group games in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 competition. This year also sees Somerset Women crowned Division Two T20 champions.

2013 – Somerset Women are crowned Division Two County Champions.

2015 – Somerset Women are crowned Division Two County Champions.

2016 – Western Storm make their debut at the Cooper Associates County Ground in the KIA Super League. Somerset Women are also crowned Division Two T20 Champions.

2017 – The County Ground hosts seven matches in the ICC Women’s World Cup.

2019 – Somerset Women are crowned Division Two T20 Champions.

2021 – Somerset Women top the West Midlands T20 group.

2023 – Somerset Women beat Wales in the final of Group 8 of the T20 competition.

2024 – Somerset CCC awarded Tier 1 Women’s Status.
