Somerset Cricket, steeped in tradition, offers a visual tapestry rich with moments that lend themselves beautifully to the delicate and expressive medium of watercolours. Capturing the fluid motion of a bowler’s delivery or the dynamic stroke of a batsman, watercolour paintings convey the essence of cricket with a unique blend of vibrancy and subtlety.
The work displayed here was painted by Michael Tarr from specially selected photos, which is his preferred way of working. The watercolour paintings of the players below, were commissioned by the Somerset County Cricket Club and hung for many years in the Colin Atkinson Pavilion until they were subsequently donated to the Cricket Museum.
