Bargain Hunt comes to the Somerset Cricket Museum

The BBC television cameras were at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton all day on Monday March 16th, filming some scenes for a future edition of the hugely popular Bargain Hunt programme that will focus on women’s cricket.

Auctioneer, Christina Trevanion will present this special episode of Bargain Hunt.

The first part of the morning involved several of the Somerset Cricket Museum trustees and volunteers who formed the crowd which surrounded Christina in her introductions. Suitably attired and despite the rain that fell intermittently they provided the background noises and cheers when directed.

After the first session the BBC crew were joined by Enid Bakewell a legend of England Women’s cricket who between 1968 and 1979 played in 12 Test matches and 23 One Day Internationals, including helping England to win the first ever Women’s World Cup in 1973, scoring a century against Australia in the final.

Christina and Enid then moved into the Ken Palmer Box in the Ontdaatje Pavilion where the 85 year old shared some of her cricketing experiences.

The BBC party then transferred to the Somerset Cricket Museum where Christina interviewed Dr Rafaelle Nicholson, a women’s cricket historian from Bournemouth University about the history of the women’s game. This interview took place in front of the impressive section that is devoted to women’s cricket in the Museum.

Somerset Cricket Museum trustee Mike Unwin who coordinated the event said: “ I thought that the day went very well, BBC got all of the footage and interviews that they wanted and to have national television visiting us is great publicity.”

This episode will be broadcast in the summer to coincide with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
