The Somerset Cricket Museum volunteers were delighted to be invited to the event on Friday 23rd January 2026 in the 1875 Room when former Somerset Women players were formally enrolled into the Somerset Former Players Association (FPA).
The Somerset Cricket Museum’s involvement stems from the time when Matt Kingdom during his time as a University placement and Hannah Radford-Thomas, an ex Somerset player herself and now an academic at Swansea University joined forces to write a book on Somerset Women’s Cricket.
Contacts were made, data gathered, stories related and the book was produced. In parallel the Somerset FPA began to have thoughts on inviting Somerset Women players to join the FPA, but where to start?
Matt and Hannah encouraged their contacts to reach out to David Gurr Secretary to the FPA, and the process started.
Through Matt and Hannah a group of around 100 players have been identified and around 60 have made contact
On the 23rd January the inaugural meeting took place and 12 former women’s players were brought into the FPA (it was a cold wet night which took its toll on the number of attendees). Also in attendance were members of the (men’s) FPA, members of the current Somerset Women’s squad and coach Erin Osborne and Museum representatives.
It is planned to have a further event during early April during Women’s home match.
