Chilcompton Sports Cricket Club – Club History

Stratton on the Fosse CC was founded in the early part of the 1900s and played at Downside School until 2015. The 1913 Midsomer Norton CC Fixture list below shows fixtures between both Stratton on the Fosse and the original Chilcompton club. The Club also hosted a County match between  Somerset and Glamorgan in 1934.

The Club played friendly cricket until the late 80s when it joined the North Somerset League, and won several divisional titles in the late eighties and early nineties.

The Club enjoyed both the good cricket facilities at Downside and the cricket played there.

As the school played cricket fixtures till late June, the Club had to play the first half of its season away from home and then the second half all at home.

In 2015 after about 90 years, the Club left Downside and relocated to Chilcompton and became Chilcompton Sports CC, the original club at Chilcompton having folded in the late 1960s.

It has been there since and currently runs 3 senior sides, 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. The 1st and 2nd XIs play in the Bristol and District League and the Sunday X1 continue to play in the North Somerset League.

The Club also runs 2 junior sides U11 and U13 and plans to start running an U15 side next season.

The U13s have just won the Bath and District Youth Cricket League this year (2023). The Club has also competed in the County Knockout Cup Competition for a number of years now and for the first time, in 2023 have reached the final, and are all looking forward to 3rd September, which be a memorable experience for the whole club.
